Your presence or well-wishes are more than enough of a gift for us.
If you've already budgeted some sum for a gift, we'd encourage you to donate it to a charity. We've listed four below, but there are thousands of great causes out there; please don't feel limited by our list. (Note: If you choose to make a donation in our names, please know that Julia will not be changing her name.)
-
Luke House Community Meal Program
Julia grew up spending a day or two a month volunteering at Luke House, most often as a dish washer. (She remembers having to stand on a chair to reach the sink.) The past two years, Justin has joined in preparing Luke House for the Christmas Eve meal, peeling potatoes and putting up the tree.

This is the food bank serving after-school programs and hundreds of other organizations in the area where Justin grew up.
-
Arlington Food Assistance Center
This is the main food program serving the people we see in our neighborhood and as we commute to our jobs and elsewhere.

We met in j-school at Mizzou, so it holds a special place in our hearts. There are lots of options on the page for where to donate to within the journalism school. Our top picks would be the scholarships or the Columbia Missourian endowment, but if a particular type of media (photojournalism, radio, magazine, etc.) is your favorite, there are options for giving to those specific programs, too.
But if you're the type who likes to give a physical gift, we've also registered for some items to help fill out our home (mostly our kitchen).
